The Engine Shed
Engines have been used for many years to provide the power for various machines. A common system was to have
one large engine connected to a line shaft and several machines by means of belts and pulleys. The line
shafting runs from here through the wall and into the saw mill; and in the dairy it is possible to see
that the shafting extended in there as well.
The shafting is no longer used to drive the saw mill but it still turns when the engine is running. In here
it connects with the flour mill, combined roller/grinder and chaff cutter and the power source, a Lister
5-1 6HP diesel engine.
