Making a school visit

You don't have to be a teacher to click onto this part of the website. You may want to know what is available so you can tell your teacher!

Schools make regular visits to Temple Newsam all year round but lots of schools visit between May and July. All visits need to be booked in advance. Normally two weeks notice is required, but between May and July you need to book 4 clear weeks in advance. Please ring our secretary on (0113) 264 7321 for bookings to the House or to book any activity related to the House. Please ring (0113) 264 5535 to make a booking for a Farm visit or any Farm or Estate–related education activity.

For a Self–Guided Visit to the Estate please write to us on headed notepaper with confirmation of your dates and times and the number of children you intend to bring. Admission to the Estate is free.

For a Self–Guided Visit to the Farm please telephone the Secretary on (0113) 264 5535 to discuss your requirements and book your visit. Write on headed notepaper with confirmation of your dates and times, the number of children you intend to bring and the number of adult helpers that will be coming with them. Attach a cheque made payable to Leeds City Council for the amount discussed with the Secretary for any admission to the Farm that may apply.

For a Visit to the House please ring the Education staff at the house on (0113) 264 7321 to discuss your requirements and a booking form will be sent to you. Any payment should be made on the day of your visit at the Admission Desk in the house.

For a Guided Visit to the Farm or Estate you need to book the Education Officer's time before booking your school visit, by ringing (0113) 264 5535 to make sure she is available on the day you require. You will need to discuss and agree what activities you would like to do, then book your day with the Secretary on the above number. Then send us written confirmation with your payment. The Education Officer can advise you on many elements of your visit including National Curriculum content, Health and Safety and Risk Assessments.

We strongly advise that you make a free preparatory visit before your school arrives. If you need some help or guidance from the Education Officers, please ring them and book their time in advance.
