Study Support
The Temple Newsam Study Support Centre is located within Home Farm. It caters for school-age children and is
also available to groups who want to use our facilities independently by hiring the centre by the day or week.
The Study Support Suite has two rooms. A "wet classroom" for painting, craft work and "muddy science" and a
fully equipped computer room with ten computers, printers and white board. There are toilets, handwashing,
tea and coffee-making facilities, a fridge, freezer and cooker. Guided Study Support Programmes run from
3.30pm to 5.00pm but may be available at other times on request. If you have a particular topic you wish
to explore, we can work with you to produce a programme of work. Just ask!
Leeds Schools can book the Study Support Centre after school hours, between 3.30 and 5.00pm free of charge,
depending on availability. There is a charge for Non-Leeds Schools and for any group booking the Study Support
Centre at other times. A morning session runs from 9.00am to 12.00 noon. An afternoon session runs from 12.00
to 3.00pm. The suite is normally closed between 3.00 and 3.30pm. for cleaning and preparation. Please remember
that booking is subject to availability on a "first–come, first–served" basis. Please ring for details.

Current programmes for key stages 2, 3 & 4 include :
Farm Food, Healthy Eating
A six–week programme of investigations into what makes healthy food, what a balanced diet consists of and how
to eat wisely. Issues about animal care, welfare and compassion, vegetarianism, veganism, hunting for sport,
rare breeds and conservation are dealt with at appropriate levels.
Available all year.

Poetry for Pigs
A day–workshop or 4 after school sessions designed to introduce children to poetry writing, inspired by visiting
some of the animals on the farm.
Available all year.
The Ghosts of Temple Newsam
A six–week (key stage 2–3) or eight–week (key stage 3–4) programme involving students in a wide variety of
literacy, ICT and drama activities. An investigation of ghostly phenomenon at Temple Newsam includes a guided
walk through the house and farm, including the rarely seen underground tunnel and cellars. Groups will choose
from a variety of formats for interpreting the ghost stories they research, including a video production, live
drama, digital storyboard, a booklet or a newspaper/magazine article.
Available Autumn and Spring terms.
Posh Paintings
A 5–week programme using digital photography, creative artwork and ICT to interpret some of the paintings hung
at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall. Real painting and drawing sessions will give the children a basis
to digitally create their own 'posh paintings' of themselves. There will be an exhibition at the end of the
last session.
