School Visits at Temple Newsam House

At Temple Newsam House we have everything to support you in planning your educational visit. Our dedicated learning expert can support you in risk assessments and planning your day’s activities; offer free teacher consultations and visits prior to your school’s arrival and educational resources to help you get the most out of your visit. 

Our innovative learning programmes are carefully structured according to age range, subject or cross-curricular links and are inspired by the stories and characters of Temple Newsam House.  They are designed to meet the National Curriculum requirements while stimulating imagination and skill development.

Self guided visits to the House

Visits to Temple Newsam House are free to Leeds (LEA) schools and can be booked by calling the learning and access office.  Independent and non-Leeds (LEA) schools pay £1.50 per head for admission to the House or £2.00 per head for a joint ticket with the House and the Estate farm.  All children under 5 years old are admitted free of charge. The group leader ratio is one free adult per two children under 5. Over the age of 5, the ratio is one free adult per six children. This applies to both Leeds and non-Leeds schools.

Self guided activities at Temple Newsam House

These are free and must be booked in advance. Some activities may carry a retaining fee for borrowing equipment or Activity Boxes. Please ask.

School Talks and Tours 

Pupils will be treated to talks or tours around the fascinating rooms, corridors and staircases of Temple Newsam House, tailored to the particular interests and age range of your group. Tours are subject to availability. They may not available on certain weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

Preparation and Post visit activities

Some learning programmes are supported by specific worksheets, learning packs and interactives.  Please contact the Learning and Access Officer  for details.
