Welcome to John Charles Centre for Sport Tennis Program.

Our Tennis Program caters for all individuals.

We offer a diverse junior program, from Mini Tennis to Full Ball players, an Adult program for complete beginners through to advanced players and Disability tennis 

includes wheelchair tennis, visually impaired tennis and sessions for those with Downs syndrome. Social Tennis sessions are availalbr for all ages and abilities. We also offer individual lessons for those who want them.

Monday to Friday      8.30am-10.30pm

Saturday                  8.30am- 8.30pm

Sunday                    8.30am- 10.00pm

Times are subject to change due to tournaments

Pay and play facilities available

  • 6 indoor acrylic tennis courts
  • 6 outdoor floodlit acrylic tennis courts
  • Spectator balcony

  • Café serving hot & cold drinks and snacks

Pay and play sessions

Casual pay and play tennis - year round pay and play access to six indoor and six outdoor acrylic courts. All courts are available to hire on a pay and play basis and can be booked up to seven days in advance or eight days in advance by LeedsCard holders. 

Junior social tennis -  fun activities and organised play led by one of the centre’s coaching team.  Suitable for boys and girls aged from 6 to 16 years, no previous tennis experience is necessary. Come along and have fun and make new friends.  All equipment is provided.

Adult Social tennis -  organised singles and doubles matches supervised by one of the centre’s coaching team. A great opportunity to just come along and enjoy a game and meet people.

Customer information

  • Extensive free parking for customers
  • Tennis rackets and balls are available to hire or purchase from reception.
  • If floodlights are requested for the outdoor courts there is an additional charge of £3 per hour.
  • Disabled facilities include: reserved parking for disabled drivers, level entrance, automatic entrance doors, induction loop, accessible changing and shower facilities, tactile signage, tennis wheelchairs (for hire), level access to courts (ramped), access to viewing gallery.

Mini Tennis

Our Mini tennis sessions program caters for children of all levels and abilities from the ages of 3 to 10 years old. Lessions are delivered by LTA qualifief coaches and individuals tuition is also available, Classes are structured according to age with the youngest children starting out with foam balls and larger rackets, smaller courts and lower nets. 

Age Groups: 
Mini red tennis: 3-8 year olds 
Mini orange: 8-9 year olds 
Mini green tennis: 9-10 years

The mini tennis sessions run on a school term basis.

Full Ball Juniors Tennis


Our Full Ball Junior program is for players between the ages of 11 and 18. The Lessons are delivered by LTA qualified coaches and individual tuition is also available.

The players are grouped together with players of a similar ability level and the programme runs on a school term basis. All players regardless of ability are welcome.

Adult Tennis Programme


Our Adult programme caters for all levels and abilties. Sessions are available for complete beginners to advanced players.

Social Tennis


Social Tennis sessions are available for all ages and abilities on a pay and play basis.

Disability Tennis


All Disability Tennis Sessions are delivered by LTA qualified coaches and individual tuituion is also available.


Wheelchair Tennis.

Weekly wheelchair tennis coaching sessions run every Friday(term time only)

- Junior sessions run 5:30pm to 6:30pm
- Adults 6:30pm to 7:30pm
- Suitable for people aged 8+
- Sports wheelchairs are available to use
- £3.00 per session


Visually Impaired Tennis.

Twice weekly tennis coaching sessions run Wednesdays 10:30am to 12:30pm and Fridays 5:30pm to 6:30pm (term time only)

- Suitable for blind or partially sighted people
- For all ages and abilities
- £3.00 per session


Downs Syndrome Tennis.

- Downs Syndrome specific sessions for all ages and abilities
- Every Sunday 12:30pm to 1:30pm (term time only)
- £3.00 per session

Tennis Competitions and Open days


The Tennis Centre boasts one of the largest competition programmes in the country. Competitive opportunities for all ages and abilities, city-wide leagues, singles ladders and the annual City of Leeds tournament.
