Competitive lifesaving

 

RLSS National Lifesaving Survive and Save Award Programme

The ‘Survive and Save’ Programme is a series of Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards that teach, challenge and develop skills and knowledge in aquatic survival, rescue, sport and fitness to anyone of 12 years and over.
Candidates are awarded with a medal and certificate for the successful completion of their chosen awards.

The Programme has 4 strands for candidates to develop lifesaving skills:

1.  Medallion
Combine the beach and open water skills and train in the pool.
The pool environment is the most convenient and safest place for candidates to develop and refine their lifesaving skills

2.  Beach
Opportunities are available for lifesavers to go and experience the Beach environment. Candidates will learn about tides, rip currents, longshore currents, waves and so much more

3.  Stillwater
Opportunities are available for lifesavers to go and experience the Stillwater environment. Candidates will learn about hydraulics, strainers, cushion waves, eddies, locks and much more is included in this award.

4.  Sport
The Sport Lifesaving Awards give candidates the opportunity to challenge their lifesaving skills against the clock. When completing these awards candidates will also learn about fin swimming, manikin carries and tows and diving under obstacles. These awards also opens up the opportunity to compete in lifesaving competitions.
