We cover all learning places for people aged 0 to 19 and up to 25 for people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Withdrawn proposals

Queensway Primary School

At Leeds City Council’s Executive Board meeting on 23 November 2022, a report about the consultation on a proposal to close Queensway Primary School was withdrawn. This means that the council is not taking the closure proposal forward and council officers will now be contacting the other Aireborough primary schools about next steps.                 

Approved proposals

Allerton Grange School

Our Executive Board has approved permanently expanding Allerton Grange School. It will expand from 240 to 300 places in Year 7, from September 2021.

Allerton High School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to permanently expand Allerton High School from 220 places to 280 places in Year 7 from September 2022.                 

Bishop Young Church of England Academy

Our Executive Board has provisionally approved funding to support a 30 place resource provision for pupils with complex communication difficulties including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) being established at Bishop Young Church of England Academy from September 2021.                 

Bramhope Primary School

Our Executive Board has provisionally approved funding to support the expansion of Bramhope Primary School. It will permanently expand from 40 to 60 places in reception from September 2022.

Cockburn John Charles Academy

The proposal to expand Cockburn John Charles Academy has now been approved. It will permanently expand from 210 places to 240 places in Year 7 from September 2022.                 

East Leeds Secondary free school - Trinity Academy Leeds

Trinity Academy Leeds and will open on a site near Torre Road, LS9 in September 2021. In April 2020 Trinity Multi Academy Trust were given Secretary of State Approval to sponsor the new school in East Leeds.                 

The school will be a mainstream, non-faith, mixed gender, secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 16. The school will consist of:                 

  • five year groups (Year 7 to Year 11)
  • 1,200 pupils (240 per year group)
  • provision for 30 pupils with autism

Trinity Academy Leeds has now completed its public consultation to inform the local community, potential parents, pupils and other stakeholders about the new school.

Gledhow Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved decommissioning the resource provision at Gledhow Primary School from August 2022.                 

Horsforth School

Our Executive Board has provisionally approved funding to support the expansion of Horsforth School. It will permanently expand from 225 to 285 places in Year 7 from September 2022.                 

Horsforth St Margaret’s C of E Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to establish a 12 place resource provision at St Margaret’s C of E Primary School, Horsforth for pupils with complex communication difficulties including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) from September 2021.

Iverson Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to establish a 16 place resource provision for pupils with complex communication difficulties and autism at Iverson Primary School starting September 2023.                 

Leeds City Academy

Our Executive Board has approved funding to deliver the proposed permanent expansion at Leeds City Academy.

Leeds West Academy

Our Executive Board has provisionally approved funding to support the expansion of Leeds West Academy. It will permanently expand from 240 to 300 places in Year 7 from September 2022.                 

Manor Wood Primary School

The Director of Children and Families has approved a proposal to change the age range of Manor Wood Primary School from 2-11 years to 0-11 years from June 2023 onwards.       

Micklefield Church of England Primary School

Our Executive Board has provisionally approved the permanent expansion of Micklefield Church of England Primary School from 20 places to 30 places in reception from September 2021.                 

Rothwell Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to change the age range of Rothwell Primary School from 3-11 years to 4-11 years and permanently close the nursery provision at the school.  

Special free school - Co-op Academy Brierley

In 2019 we were successful in our bid to the Department for Education (DfE) to establish a new 200 place generic special free school in Leeds and The Co-operative Academies Trust were announced as the successful sponsor of this school and the new school is to be known as Co-op Academy Brierley. The school will provide places for 200 pupils aged 5-16.         

The school is due to open in September 2023 on an interim site at the Co-op Nightingale Primary Academy on Stanley Road, Leeds 9 before moving to its permanent brand-new base at Cross Green Lane, Leeds 9 for the start of the 2024/25 academic year.         

From September 2024 Co-op Academy Brierley will establish a new primary partnership provision within the purpose built extension at Co-op Nightingale Primary Academy site.

St Edward’s Catholic Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to expand St Edward’s Catholic Primary School to permanently increase the number of places offered at the school in Reception from 20 to 30 places from September 2022.                 

West Oaks SEN Specialist School and College

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal by West Oaks SEN Specialist School and College Governing Body to permanently expand the school from 350 to 500 SEND places for learners aged 2 to 19 using an additional site at Buckingham Road, Headingley from September 2021.                 

Wetherby High School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to lower the age range of Wetherby High School from 11 to 18 years to 11 to 16 years from September 2022 onwards.       

Wykebeck Primary School

Our Executive Board has approved a proposal to lower the age range of Wykebeck Primary School from 3-11 years to 2-11 years from September 2023 onwards.
