Welcome to Walkit Leeds. This is sign WF7
Walk it Leeds is a project aimed at making it easy to find your way around Leeds City Centre on foot.
This sign gives you clear, easy-to-read mapping of the local area. It shows you the main shopping areas in yellow, places to eat and drink in orange, and other places of interest in purple.
The map is known as ‘heads up’, which means the map is orientated to the direction you are looking at it, rather than having north at the top.
The sign is also solar powered, so the map should be backlit if it’s before 9pm and if it’s dark.
This sign was installed in February 2012 and the map was last updated in November 2011. If you spot any mistakes or damage, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0113 2474685.
You are at sign WF07 on Briggate. Briggate is Leeds’ busiest shopping street and a little further up the street is the Victoria Quarter, a spectacular covered Victorian shopping arcade first designed by Frank Matcham, the Theatre Architect responsible for over 200 buildings including the London Palladium. The glass ceiling covering the Victoria Quarter entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest stained glass window in the UK.
