Right to Manage Your Estates

The Right to Manage applies to Council tenancies and Council leaseholder properties.

Housing law in England gives local authority tenants and leaseholders a collective right to take on the management of certain council housing services where they live. They can then make decisions about how to spend money and run the local services that most affect them, such as repairs, looking after open spaces, estate cleaning and making sure residents keep to the conditions of their tenancies.

The council still owns the property.

Before deciding to manage their estate, tenants should make sure it is the best option for them and their neighbours. Tenants should discuss problems and ideas with the Council early on and find out what other options may be available.
