Cancer: early diagnosis and screening services in Leeds

Changes to your body's normal processes or symptoms that are out of the ordinary can sometimes be a sign of cancer or another serious condition.

Diagnosing cancer early can save your life. When cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, treatment options and chances of a full recovery are much greater. For example, lung cancer is one of the UK's biggest killers and also has one of the lowest survival rates. In Leeds around 500 people per year are diagnosed with lung cancer, which can be treated successfully if diagnosed early. The pattern is very similar for bowel and breast cancer.

It's important to get a check to rule out cancer or other serious conditions.

In Leeds there are many free screening services that are available to some people, these include bowel cancer screening test kits for those aged 60 to 74, free chest x-rays for over 50s and a breast screening service for women aged 50 to 70.

The drop down headings and documents section have more information on screening services in Leeds and how to access them.
