Bin Collections (Updated)

There has been significant disruption to the waste collection service as a result of the national strike action.

If your bin has not been collected today please return it to your property. We hope to arrange a recovery collection on Sunday 13 July for some services.

If you were due a:

(i) clinical waste collection
(ii) food waste collection
(iii) alternate weekly collection of your black bin or
(iv) 4 weekly green bin collection

Please re-present your bin by 7am on Sunday 13 July. Please use the ‘Check your bin day’ service to see whether your property may receive a collection this Sunday.

We will not be recovering weekly black bin collections. Please return your bin to your property and place out for the next collection. We will collect any excess waste placed the side of the bin.

We will not be recovering fortnightly green bin collections. Please return your bin to your property and place out for the next collection. Please wash and squash recyclables to maximise available space in your wheelie bin. Please note we will collect excess recycling placed at the side of the bin on your next green bin collection if presented in clear plastic bags.

We will not be recovering garden waste collections. Please return your bin to your property and place out for the next collection.

You can take any excess garden waste to one of the Household Waste Sorting Sites across the city as we cannot take any garden waste not presented in a wheelie bin.

The Bulky Item Collection Service will not operate on Thursday 10 July. If you have a collection arranged for this day you should call 0113 222 4406 (Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm) to book an alternative collection date. We will endeavour to reschedule your collection as soon as possible. However, the service is experiencing very high demand and there is likely to be a waiting time of between 4 to 6 weeks. As an alternative you can take unwanted items to our recycling sites where containers are available to place items for disposal, recycling or donation to charity.
