Walkit Route A74

Welcome to Walkit Leeds. This is sign A74

Walk it Leeds is a project aimed at making it easy for you to make your way around Leeds City Centre on foot.

This sign gives you clear, easy-to-read mapping of the local area. It shows you the main shopping areas in yellow, places to eat and drink in orange, and other places of interest in purple.

The map is known as ‘heads up’, which means the map is orientated to the direction you are looking at it, rather than having north at the top.

The sign is also solar powered, so the map should be backlit if it’s before 9pm and if it’s dark.

This sign was installed in March 2012 and the map was last updated in November 2011. If you spot any mistakes or damage, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please email walkitleeds@leeds.gov.uk or call 0113 2474685.

You are at sign A74 on Lands Lane. Across the Headrow, the spectacular building occupied by TK Maxx has been at the forefront of shopping in Leeds for 80 years. It was originally built in 1932 as a Lewis’s store, and was reputedly the largest store outside London at the time. The store became Allders in 1996, which became something of a shopping institution in Leeds. However in 2005, Allders ran into financial difficulty and the store closed down. Two years later in 2007, work started on creating the multi-use building that you see today, which includes office accommodation and four large retailers.
