Walkit Route A20

Welcome to Walkit Leeds. This is sign A20

Walk it Leeds is a project aimed at making it easy for you to make your way around Leeds City Centre on foot.

This sign gives you clear, easy-to-read mapping of the local area. It shows you the main shopping areas in yellow, places to eat and drink in orange, and other places of interest in purple.

The map is known as ‘heads up’, which means the map is orientated to the direction you are looking at it, rather than having north at the top.

The sign is also solar powered, so the map should be backlit if it’s before 9pm and if it’s dark.

This sign was installed in December 2011 and the map was last updated in November 2011. If you spot any mistakes or damage, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please email walkitleeds@leeds.gov.uk or call 0113 2474685.

You are at sign A20 on Bond Street near the junction with Park Row. Britain’s first permanent traffic lights were installed at this junction in 1928. The Black Horse statue by Peter Tysoe can also be seen, which was completed in 1976. Bond Street today marks the boundary between the city’s Shopping and Business districts. In 2011, sculptural bollards, based on the tailoring industry, were installed to mark this.
