Walkit Route A19

Welcome to Walkit Leeds. This is sign A19

Walk it Leeds is a project aimed at making it easy for you to make your way around Leeds City Centre on foot.

This sign gives you clear, easy-to-read mapping of the local area. It shows you the main shopping areas in yellow, places to eat and drink in orange, and other places of interest in purple.

The map is known as ‘heads up’, which means the map is orientated to the direction you are looking at it, rather than having north at the top.

The sign is also solar powered, so the map should be backlit if it’s before 9pm and if it’s dark.

This sign was installed in March 2012 and the map was last updated in November 2011. If you spot any mistakes or damage, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please email walkitleeds@leeds.gov.uk or call 0113 2474685.
You are at sign A19 at the junction of the Headrow and Park Row. Across the Headrow is The Light, a mixed-use leisure development containing restaurants, bars, shops, a gym and Leeds city centre’s only cinema. A visit inside is worthwhile, if only to see the spectacular glazed roof covering the development. The building was converted in 2001 from the former Headquarters of the Leeds Permanent Building Society and the roof covers two former streets.  The sandstone building next to you, now occupied by Park Row Bar & Brasserie, was built in 1864 as a branch of the Bank of England, and is now Grade II Listed.
