Getting about the city and  the region is easier than you think.  Knowing how to travel round and not spend too much money on the process  will help widen the opportunities open to you.

Full time students can travel for half fare. Application forms are available from school, college or main post offices.
To plan your journey by bus or train and find out the quickest route, look at the Metro journey planner.

Learning to drive gives you lots of independence if you can afford to run a car or have access to one you can use.  Make sure you know about all the tests and things you need to do to be able to drive legally and safely.
Information about trains is available online or you can call 08457 48 49 50  for local and national services.

For anyone wanting to cycle or walk, there are walking maps and information on cycling networks available on the 'Cycling and walking' related page.
