Support for adults who are deaf or have a hearing and/or sight impairment

Following the completion of a procurement exercise BID Services were awarded a five year contract to deliver a sensory impairment service, which commenced on 1 April 2017. They will deliver this contract with support from their partners Feel Good Factor, Association of Blind Asians and Age UK Leeds.

The new service will aim to support the following individuals who have a range of needs relating to their sensory loss:

  • Adults who are profoundly Deaf
  • Adults who are hearing impaired
  • Adult who are registered Blind
  • Adults who are registered partially sighted
  • Adults who are blind or partially sighted and not registered
  • Adults who are sensory impaired and have a learning disability
  • Adults who have dual sensory loss
  • Young deaf people aged 0-17 who are eligible for equipment
  • Young people aged 16+ who are D/deaf, blind, deafblind or partially sighted and in transition from children’s services

The service will provide flexible, reliable support that aims to enable service users to maximise their independence, reduce social isolation and maintain their health and wellbeing. This will be achieved through the provision of:

  • A Single Point of Access
  • Assessment and enablement Services
  • Communicator Guide services for individuals affected by dual sensory loss
  • Assistive technology for Hearing and Sight Impaired
  • Employment Support
  • Volunteering/Peer Support
  • Deaf Specialist Social Work Team
  • City wide Social Groups
  • Hospital based Eye Clinic Liaison Service – (emotional support and information for newly diagnosed with an eye condition) based at St James and Seacroft Hospital
  • Transition services for young people aged 16+
  • Home Visits for vulnerable individuals with Sensory Loss
  • Hear to Help – Hearing Aid support Outreach Team
  • Health and Wellbeing Services
  • Small items of equipment
