Privately rented property - a guide for tenants

Privately Rented Property - A guide For Tenants.

If you are looking for private rented accommodation in Leeds, there is a large private rented sector, with a variety of property types and sizes across most areas of the city.

Why rent with a private landlord when I want a council house?
Many people find that private renting is a positive way to solve their housing needs. It can be a very quick way to get your own home. For properties under our Private Sector Lettings Scheme, you won’t need to pay a bond before you can take a property. The team  at Leeds Housing Options can also help you complete a Housing Benefit claim if required.

We check to see that landlords wishing to join the private sector letting scheme are either existing members of the Leeds Landlords' Accreditation Scheme or give a commitment to become a member of LLAS within 3 months from the date of joining the private sector letting scheme. Check to see if your landlord is a member by clicking on the external link on this page.

I have never rented a private property before, how does it work?
We inspect every property to ensure:

- it is in good condition
- it is safe from hazards
- it meets fire regulations
- it has had gas and electrical appliances checked and up to date certificates to prove this.-
