Emergency planning for carers

An unexpected event such as a family bereavement, carer illness or sudden hospital admission can be worrying and stressful for the carer and the person they care for.

The carers emergency plan scheme can replace the carer for up to 48 hours if they are unexpectedly unable to look after the person they regularly care for. Free care can be provided in the case of unavoidable emergencies such as a transport breakdown or a work related emergency for a period of 48 hours (72 hours over a bank holiday, until alternative arrangements can be put into place).

Carers need to register for the service and arrange for an emergency liaison officer to visit them at home to put together an emergency plan about them and the person they provide care for. The carer is also given a card and fridge magnet with an emergency telephone number on it, so they can access the service quickly in an emergency.

Many people with caring responsibilities worry about what would happen if they had to leave the person they care for unexpectedly. This service helps to give carers and the person they care for peace of mind during unforeseen circumstances.

How to register

The service is operated by Ark Healthcare which is a CQC registered personal care agency. If you would like to join the scheme please email Leeds@arkhealth.co.uk.
