Paying for social care and support

Social care is not free. Following on from your needs assessment, which works out what support you need and how much it will cost to provide, we’ll offer to complete a financial assessment to work out how much of that cost we will pay, and how much you’ll need to pay yourself.

Depending on the amount of income, savings or assets you have, you may have to contribute towards some or all of your social care and support. If you have received and invoice for Adult Social Care services you can make a payment online.

I have been assessed as having eligible needs, how much will I need to contribute?

Our financial team will look at how much your identified needs cost to provide, and evaluate your finances in more detail to work out your contribution.

Depending on the amount of income, savings or assets you have, you may have to contribute towards some or all of your social care and support.

You will be assessed as needing either non-residential or residential care. Both types of support will require a contribution based on how much you are financially assessed as being able to pay.

What if I cannot manage my own finances?

You may want help to deal with your finances. If this is the case you can apply for Power of Attorney for a nominated individual.

If you need to manage the finances of someone who lacks mental capacity you will need to apply to the Courts for Legal Representation. There are two different types:

Where an individual lacks mental capacity and there is no legal representative, we cannot carry out a financial assessment.
