Needle removal

Needles, syringes and other drug related items occasionally become litter.  Unless it poses an immediate danger to you or other residents, do not pick up these items.

If you find any needles, syringes or drug related items on the grounds of schools, nurseries or other educational premises during working hours, report this immediately to the premises.  There are trained staff to deal with such items.

Needle collection service
This is a limited city wide resource and our priority is the rapid removal of needles and other similar waste items from areas open to the public.

We do not provide a service to remove needles from within properties or their grounds, this includes ALMO properties.
If you live in rented accommodation contact the landlord or ALMO, if you are an owner occupier you need to make arrangements through a private contractor for removal.

Report it
To have needles, syringes or other drug related items safely removed and disposed of, please call our free public helpline on 0800 1386227

Medical syringes
Please note: we do not collect diabetic needles or medicines.  These should be disposed of at your doctor’s surgery.  If you have any problems with this, please call the Patient Advisory Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 0525 270.

If you are housebound or unable to get to your doctor, you or someone on your behalf should complete a medical collection request form.
