Mini Police Officers

This road safety initiative, in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, enables primary school pupils, usually at year 6, to dress up as police officers and traffic wardens in child sized uniforms and to work alongside the real officers outside their school.

Pupils offer advice to motorists that they see committing offences such as parking on the yellow zigzags, parking on the pavement, blocking driveways or not wearing seatbelts and using mobile phones etc.

The drivers are given the option of accepting this advice, and signing a pledge that they will not repeat this behaviour, or being handed a fixed penalty ticket by the real police officers/traffic wardens.

This is a very interactive way of letting children appreciate the way that the police work, the necessity for having laws and the importance of responsible behaviour by drivers to keep the roads safe.
