Match day parking restrictions and permit scheme

Beeston, Wortley and Cottingley

The recently constructed Police Headquarters on Elland Road, Beeston has resulted in a loss of car parking spaces which were used for match day parking. This loss of parking directly adjacent to Elland Road may result in some displaced parking within the wider area particularly in streets close by, where at present no formal parking restrictions exist.

Therefore, to mitigate the loss of car parking spaces, it is proposed that a Match Day Only Residents Permit Parking Scheme be introduced on identified streets within the locality. It is also been identified that on match days indiscriminate parking is creating sightline issues at many junctions and along certain lengths of roads and it is proposed that waiting restrictions be implemented in those locations. The existing residents permit parking in the area will remain and operate as it does currently and will not be affected.

The match day residents permit parking scheme is intended to remove problematic parking and improve the area for residents and businesses.

To implement such a large scheme over a large area involves a considerable amount of work and at the present time we are looking at preparing legal notices to formally inform the public that parking restrictions are to be implemented.

These notices will be erected in the area and will allow the public to make comments including objections to the proposals if they wish. If we receive objections, we will consider the merits of the objection and whether they are valid. If an objection cannot be resolved then this will be reported to our Chief Highways Officer for consideration.

The formal legal notices will be placed by the end of October/early November.

  • The residents permit parking will operate Match Days Only
  • You can only park in one of the zones for an unlimited period on match days if your vehicle has a residents or visitors permit on display

The Permit

  • Once the scheme is in place residents and businesses can apply for a permit by downloading the application form from the internet
  • Residents permits are issued free of charge
  • Business permits cost £75 per year

Plans of the proposals are available in the Documents section of this page.
