Learning, Training and Employment for Young People

The Skills for Life Team in Children’s Services works enable all young people in Leeds to take part and progress in learning up to the age of 18 and make a successful transition to employment or further learning.

Our three main areas of activity are:

Education Business Partnerships/Mentoring – We provide enterprise and mentoring activities to schools as a traded service.  Our aim is to ensure that young people, particularly the most vulnerable, have the necessary confidence and skills to succeed in the workplace and further learning.

Participation, progression and provision planning – We lead on strategies and projects to increase participation in leaning, help schools with careers advice and guidance, and reduce the number of young people who are not engaged in education, employment or training.  We also work with schools, FE colleges, and other partners to make sure there is a full range of learning and employment opportunities for the post-14 age group.

Quality Assurance of Offsite Provision – We monitor and assure the quality of all off site learning accessed by 11-19 year olds outside of the school environment. Our aim is to ensure that young people are safe in these environments and achieve the best possible learning outcomes.

We provide the Leeds Pathways online service around learning, training and employment for young people in Leeds.  The site also includes resources for parents, carers, teachers and other professionals.
