Extra funds put into pothole repairs 2012/13

Following the severe winter 2012/13, Leeds City Council highways teams have made it their top priority to tackle as a matter of urgency the potholes that have been forming all over the city. In addition to the City Council’s annual budget set aside to deal with potholes, The Department for Transport (DfT) has provided a grant of £1,337,000 to assist in repairing this damage.

During severe weather, the road can become brittle due to the cold and cracks may form. When water gets into the crack and freezes it expands making a bigger hole. Once the surface is broken the road can deteriorate quickly. The repeated freezing and thawing process over time makes this worse.

Please see  the documents section for a list of the locations where work funded by the DfT to help improve the overall condition of the roads in Leeds after last year’s very poor winter has been completed.
