The Emergency Duty Team
The Adults and Health Emergency Duty Team (EDT) work outside of office hours and deal with adult safeguarding and mental health assessments and prioritise referrals. Providing us with as much information as possible helps us respond more effectively.
We prioritise and work within local and national policy and procedures and statutory obligations to ensure the safety, wellbeing of service users and the department. We work with partner agencies including the police, health and education.
What times can you contact the EDT?
- Monday to Thursday 5pm to 8am
- Friday to Monday 4.30pm to 8am
We cover all bank holidays from 5pm the day before, to 8am the day after the bank holiday.

We have a statutory duty to provide access to an AMHP Approved Mental Health Professional. Adults and Health EDT carry out assessments within the Mental Health Act 1983 amended 2007.
The EDT work to the Care Act 2014 to support people in an emergency who may be as risk of abuse, neglect or domestic violence or experiencing exploitation, and will offer support around carer breakdown.
