The data controller for the information we collect
Leeds City Council is the data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and other regulations, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation, which means it determines what your data is used for and why it is collected. The purpose of this privacy notice is to tell you about what information we collect about you when you use our service, how we use that information, and who we may share it with. The data we will collect
To deliver the Autistic Children Matter study, we will process the following data:
- Age
- Gender
- Special category (including finance data)
- SEND
How we collect information about you
We collect information about you by referring to and extracting this data from existing Independent Travel training records.
Why we process your data
We use your information to help identify if there are patterns and behaviours in relation to age and gender in this cohort and also to help devise simulator (University of Leeds pedestrian VR simulator) and training resources that will be made available to educational professionals and schools.
All the data collected will be treated in strict confidence and in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The data provided by you will only be used for the purpose(s) specified.
Lawful basis for processing
We collect and hold your information to enable us to meet our statutory duty as a local authority. The Road Traffic Act 1988 gives local authorities a statutory duty to take steps to reduce and prevent accidents by conducting studies, implementing measures like training and infrastructure changes, and providing information.
As part of meeting the conditions for the Road Safety Trust grant-funded research to support LCC's Vision Zero road safety action plan, we will be sharing data in pursuit of a public interest objective, namely, improving road safety: public task 6 (1) (e) and legitimate interest 6 (1) (f) to make UK roads safer to use for a vulnerable group of individuals.
Data retention, storage and destruction
Our data retention policies and procedures are designed to help ensure that we comply with our legal obligations in relation to the retention. This means that your information will be kept for 35 years.
Who we share your data with
We share your data with agencies as follows: Leeds University Institute for Transport Studies, faculty members and supporting research staff, and students enrolled on the relevant courses.
Automated decision making
Your data will not be used for any automated decision making, including profiling.
Your rights
The following rights under data protection law are available under the UK GDPR:
- the right to access – you can ask for copies of your personal data
- the right to rectification – you can ask us to rectify inaccurate personal data and to complete incomplete personal data
- the right to erasure - you can ask us to erase your personal data

Where we process your information under the terms of the contract, certain rights to do not apply, such as the right to objection to processing and the right to withdraw consent.

When your data gets sent to other countries
The information you provide will not be transferred to another country outside of the UK.

Complaints
