The reasons we use your data

You are applying to volunteer with us, therefore this privacy notice makes you aware of how and why your personal data will be used, namely for the purposes of the recruitment exercise to the Leeds Independent Visitor Scheme (LIVS).

We have a lawful basis to collect, process, hold and share your personal information, as referenced in paragraphs 1 a) 1 b) and 1 c) of Article 6 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), as detailed below:

a) the data subject has given consent to the processing of his or her personal data for one or more specific purposes;

b) processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract;

c) processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject;

For more general information about how the council processes personal information and details of your rights, please refer to our Privacy Notice page.

Why we are allowed to use your data

If you are making an application for a volunteer role, you are not under any obligation to provide us with personal data. However, should you decide not to provide us with the personal data we request, we may not be able to progress your volunteer application.

We may sometimes collect additional information from third parties, including current and former employers in the form of a reference, or when we need to carry out a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as the role is a regulated activity, such as working in one of our services with young people.

Who we can share your data with

The information we collect will be shared, where appropriate and necessary, with other departments within the council such as the LADO (local authority designated officer), Social Workers and Independent Reviewing Officers specifically for the purpose of administering the LIVS.

We may also share your information externally, for example, for the purpose of carrying out safeguarding and pre-employment checks (DBS checks).
