Bike Week 2009

Bike Week is one of the biggest cycling events that is held over the UK.  It is an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun.

Leeds continues to see a steady increase in the number of cycle lanes and tracks making cycling more attractive than cars for short journeys.  Leeds City Council is helping to promote Bike Week with different events to encourage everyone to get on their bikes. So this year join in with the whole family and make sure you attend one of the city's events during Bike Week and ‘live local, get cycling’.

The Bike Week 2009 campaign will focus on encouraging families to take up cycling in their local communities and ‘get more out of life’ by getting on their bikes, exploring their local community and finding out just how convenient cycling is for all those short trips we make each day.  Bike Week 2009 will position cycling as a fun and sociable activity that helps families enjoy more time together whilst exploring the local community, keeping healthy and active.

How you can join in!

Bike Week takes place from the 13th – 21st June.  It is an ideal time for all the family to rediscover the joys of cycling with organised rides and events across the region for cyclists of all abilities and needs.  Whether it’s road cycling, or off-road routes, mountain biking, or leisurely picnics you're sure to find a ride that’s right for you. Most of the events that run during Bike Week are free to enter.

Please follow the links on this page for the lists of Bike Week rides and other organised rides, which will be updated every week up to Bike Week, the event organiser registration form, and for further information about Bike Week nationally and in Leeds.  For hard copies of any documents or any further information you can also contact Charlotte Jones on 0113 3950276 or by email at charlotte.1.jones@leeds.gov.uk.
