A planning application for major new developments at Thorpe Park in east Leeds to include office, retail and leisure facilities was today fully approved by Leeds City Council's city plans panel.
The proposals, which will create up to 13,000 jobs as part of the wider East Leeds Extension and will also see the creation of the new Manston Lane Link Road and a new Green Park, were fully approved after councillors requested an additional meeting to further consider the retail conditions and level of public transport to be provided on the new link road.
After approval was given on those remaining two elements, Leeds City Council executive member for neighbourhoods, planning and support services Councillor Peter Gruen said:
“The development at Thorpe Park will be a fantastic boost in terms of jobs, the economy and regeneration for east Leeds and beyond with the Manston Lane Link Road being central to that. The additional meeting was helpful in terms of ensuring the outstanding issues were fully considered by the city plans panel.”
The application will now be referred to the Secretary of State for the Department of Communities and Local Government as a departure from the Statutory Development Plan and for consultation under the Town and Country Planning (Consultation) (England) Direction 2009.
