Brother Gilbert's Day
Site: Kirkstall Abbey
This workshop is led by museums staff.
This hands on interactive workshop will help to bring medieval life in Kirkstall to life for your pupils. Working in groups pupils will investigate different aspects of medieval and monastic life through examining and interacting with buildings and artefacts. This will include looking at eating equipment and dinning room manners, life in a silent order and the development of sign language, education and writing equipment, and monastic dress.
Pupils will gain an insight into why people became monks and the consequences of that decision both positive and negative. They will also appreciate how dramatically life has changed in their local area which may well have been under the control of Kirkstall Abbey 500 years ago!
