Site: Abbey House Museum
Key stages:
KS1, KS2
Subject areas:
History
This workshop is led by museums staff.
What's involved?
Pupils find out what it was like to go shopping in the past comparing items taken from the shops in our Victorian Streets to what is available today. Pupils will handle historic objects and discover which shops they came from and what they were used for. They will discuss the range of shops that were available in Victorian Leeds and compare and contrast the products that they sold.
In the self led section of this workshop pupils can also experience the shops for real in our Victorian Streets and take part in our shopping basket challenge.
Classes will be split into 2 groups for the workshop, each group spending 45 minutes in the workshop and 45 minutes exploring the Museum galleries with their responsible adult. Workshops are available Tuesday - Friday and are led by a member of the Museum's freelance learning staff.
