Toys and Games
Site: Abbey House Museum
Key stages:
KS1
Subject areas:
History, Science
This workshop is led by museums staff.
What's involved?
A brilliant opportunity for your class to handle old and new toys from the Museum's nationally important collection and discover how children played in the past. In this cross curricular workshop pupils will sort the toys by age and discuss the materials they are made from and their condition with the workshop leader. Your class will also see how a range of different toys work and discuss the forces that make them do so.
The self led section of this workshop offers the opportunity to explore our Childhood Galleries which contain a further selection of toys and games and a new reconstructed Victorian Nursery.
Classes will be split into 2 groups for the following workshops (with the exception of the Abbey House Murder Mystery), each group spending 45 minutes in the workshop and 45 minutes exploring the Museum galleries with their responsible adult. Workshops are available Tuesday - Friday and are led by a member of the Museum's freelance learning staff.
