The nearest disabled parking bays can be located on Cookridge Street and Alexander Street which run alongside and behind the Gallery. Further disabled bays are available on Rossington Street or Vernon Street and at the Merrion Centre, Woodhouse Lane, The Light and Rose Bowl car parks which are a 5 or 10 minute walk from the Gallery.
The main entrance to the Gallery is at the front of the building. The automatic entrance opens inwards and is accessible via hand railed steps and a long and gradual ramp. An information desk is available on entry.
There is an alternative entrance at a lower level, ramped down to the left of the main Gallery steps, which is marked as wheelchair access for the library. Access to the Gallery from this entrance is via the lift and then through the Tiled Hall Café. This lower entrance is automatic and also provides access to the Gallery shop and brewbar café.
Lifts and access to galleries:
A large proportion of the Art Gallery is fully accessible. Some things to note are:
- Wheelchair access to the upper floor display areas of the Gallery is via the lift in the Library (with audible announcer). This lift has capacity for one wheelchair
- There is no wheelchair access to the small sculpture gallery on the lower floor
- Seating is available around the Gallery, in the Tiled Hall café and brewbar
- Large print labels are available for temporary exhibitions
- There are a number of multi-sensory artworks and interactive creative spaces within the Gallery, such as Artspace.
- The education studio used by pre-booked groups is inaccessible to wheelchair users but equal alternatives are offered. Please contact the Learning and Access Officer to discuss any access needs before your visit.
Accessible toilets are available in the shop on the lower floor, in Artspace on the main gallery floor and in the Library on the upper floor (located through the Tiled Hall). Toilets are signposted and marked on the Gallery plan that is available from the reception desk in the entrance hall. Facilities in the accessible toilets include emergency alarms and fire alarms with flashing lights.
Please note that the accessible toilets in Artspace and the library are RADAR key operated. The key for the Changing Places toilet in the shop is available from the shop desk.
