Research into all our collections is an important part of the work we do. By studying objects and artefacts ourselves or enabling visiting researchers and loans we are developing a public understanding of the city of Leeds, our past and the environment in which we live.
We identify and interpret individual objects and collections for public enquiries, for our displays and exhibitions and for publication in books, catalogues and scholarly journals. We often work in partnership with academic institutions and other museums to bring our collections to a wide audience.
Leeds Museums and Galleries have a large number of expert staff across all our sites and we are host to research students, volunteers and an undergraduate intern programme. The range of expertise we can offer spans the enormous breadth of our collections as well as how we can care for and interpret them.
Many of our publications are available to buy online.
