 @ the Youth Space

Youth Engagement @ the Youth Space
Have you ever thought about getting involved in museums and becoming a Youth Curator?  Well, it’s really easy!  If you’re aged 13 and 24 and are looking for fun and exciting new opportunities, please get in contact.  Our dedicated Youth Engagement Officer can provide 1-2-1 or group work sessions here at City Museum, including tours and visits to our other museum and gallery sites.  We also provide outreach visits to your youth project or community space.  Our Youth Engagement team offer specialized sessions designed with you, so why not get involved!

If you’re aged 13-24, you can join our Preservative Party.  Our group meets on Thursday evenings at City Museum.  We research and curate exhibitions and we’re busy planning our new exhibition for 2016 relating to World War One.  If you would like to meet new people, get in touch.

Breaking news!
Currently we are developing a brand new Youth Space located on the 3rd floor at City Museum.  This is a dedicated area for young people’s installations which represent their unique interpretation of our collections.  Why not come along to City Museum to view the exhibition area and get involved in our project.  Who knows, your creation could be shown on our walls!

Partnership working
We have successfully worked with the following organisations – Getaway Girls, The Carriageworks Young Theatre Makers, The Cupboard, Leeds University, residential children’s homes, foster care teams, social care teams, students from Leeds College of Music, Youth Offending Service and Strong Voices.  We have a strong partnership with the Leeds Council Youth Service.

So what do young people think about our projects?
“I really enjoy coming down to the museum and researching stuff like the Leeds Suffragettes”.
“I like sitting in the gallery and creating posters and poems on the collections”.
“I love the graffiti art sessions.  I can’t wait to see my canvass on the wall”.
“Wow!  Our WW1 plays filmed and shown in Broderick Hall – that’s cool!”.
