Film and Photography
Kirkstall Abbey, with its dramatic backdrop, is often used as the setting for film and photography shoots. Very recently Kirkstall Abbey became the set for the live BBC Three re-imagining of Mary Shelley's 1818 gothic masterpiece 'Frankenstein' hosting a 12,000 strong live audience.
For 17 years Classical Fantasia has been regarded as one of Leeds' most popular classical events thanks to its fantasy inspired music, provided by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia, and spectacular illumination of the abbey ruins and firework finale.
The Cloister hosts the annual Kirkstall Shakespeare Festival during July. Live performances of some of the bard's classics have included The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night's Dream and, in 2012, The Comedy of Errors.
