Temple Newsam House

One of the great country houses of England set within grand and beautiful parkland with one of the largest working rare breeds farms in Europe.  Famous as the birth place of Lord Darnley, notorious husband of Mary Queen of Scots, Temple Newsam House is a truly impressive Tudor-Jacobean mansion and the ideal venue for holding your meeting.

  • Still Room This magnificent room has always had a functional role within the house. This was where servants made jams, preserves, sweetmeats and pickles which were then stored in glazed oak cupboards ranged along the south wall. Following an extensive refurbishment in 2007 and reopened to the public in 2008, The Still Room is now available for private hire, offering you a unique and flexible venue for your meeting or event, whether that be an intimate meeting for 4, to a cocktail reception for 50. Like in the past, today the Still Room is a multifunctional space easily set-up to meet your groups needs. Located on the ground floor the Still Room is fully accessible and close to the house facilities. The room contains a range of period objects including chairs, meat grinders and a selection of our fine “Leeds Ware” ceramic collection, presented in 300 year old cabinets. All delegates automatically receive complimentary entry to the house, providing you with one of the largest break-out areas in the country. Why not combine your visit with a private tour of the house or use one of our comprehensive free audio guides? Additional facilities can be provided for your event, including projector, screen & laptop. A wide range of refreshments are available within the room and are served on our 200 year old solid oak work-table.
  • The Picture Gallery is one of the finest examples of a Jacobean long saloon in England. Restored in 1745 as a gallery to display the house paintings, this room offers a stunning backdrop for your event. The gallery can seat as few as 20 and a maximum of 120 and is available to hire for conferences, symposiums, lectures, concerts & weddings.  Located at the heart of the building & arguably the most dramatic of the houses locations, the unique backdrop of paintings provides a stimulating & stunning environment for any event. At the far end of the gallery the “Gentleman’s Library”, formerly the house chapel, can  be converted into a green room for your speakers to relax and prepare themselves. Additional facilities can be provided, including projector, screen, microphone, lectern & laptop. Refreshments are not allowed in the picture gallery for conservation reasons but the great hall & dining room can easily accommodate your guests for after event receptions.
