Leeds Museums and Galleries' Natural Science Collections are the largest and one of the most important in Yorkshire.

The natural science collection, said to number over 800,000 objects, contains animal, plant and geological specimens from Yorkshire and around the world.
Leeds is particularly famous for its excellent and diverse shell collection.

The natural science collections are housed principally at The Discovery Centre where they can be viewed by appointment. We use them for scientific research, education and display.

There is a dedicated natural science gallery at the Leeds City Museum. This showcases some of the most popular items from Leeds Museums and Galleries' collections such as the Bengal tiger and the polar bear.
