Museums and Galleries: Our Vision
In recent years the Leeds Museums and Galleries Service has benefited from a period of major investment with new visitor facilities opened at Kirkstall Abbey, a refurbishment of the Art Gallery, the £23m investment in the new Leeds City Museum (opening August) and the £6m investment in the Leeds Museum Discovery Centre which opened in 2007.
Leeds Museums and Galleries have also benefited from increased investment from Government via The Renaissance in the Regions Programme which has given us the unique opportunity to reform provision and build a challenging, dynamic and sustainable customer focused service.
The long term version of the service is to establish Leeds amongst the UK’s premier museums and gallery services, allowing it to meet its full potential in the educational, cultural, social inclusion and urban renewal goals of Leeds City Council.
