“I couldn’t carry the books if I went to the library, if the mobile stopped coming that will finish my book reading. I've used the mobile ever since it started and would be lost without it.”
Two small vehicles make fortnightly visits to our older borrowers. The mobiles are small enough to get closer to residential homes and sheltered housing complexes, making access easier for those with limited mobility.
Each carries around 1,000 items of stock, selected with the needs of older people in mind. We do our best to change the stock regularly, so that you won’t see the same books every time you visit. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can order items from other Leeds Libraries for a small charge.
As we replace our older vehicles, we will also provide computers with internet access for people who use our mobile libraries.
We are hoping to take delivery of a new mobile for older people in April 2010.
