There are over 100 volunteer groups affiliated with the parks and countryside service.
- There are 50 ‘Friends of’ groups made up of people that care for and want to help their local site (see the document to the right of this page for a list of active Friends of groups).
- There are several roaming groups that do practical work during the week on sites across the city. These are: Leeds Parks Volunteers (Tuesdays), Leeds Wildlife Volunteers (Wednesdays) and the Public Rights of Way volunteers (Thursdays). Leeds Wildlife Volunteers also go out on one Sunday a month.
- 53 In Bloom groups are supported by our floral initiatives officer (for more information go to the ‘In Bloom’ web page)
All these groups welcome new volunteers. To get involved contact us below or call 0113 3367548.
Volunteer groups in community parks
We are excited to be launching volunteer days in 10 community parks in April 2012. The volunteer days will take place on the first Wednesday of the month and are open to everyone who wants to make a difference to their local park. See the download on the right for more information.
Set up your own group
If you are interested in caring for your local site and it doesn’t have a Friends of group, you could set up your own. For a really useful document on how to set up a ‘Friends of’ group visit the community section on the GreenSpace website (there’s a link below) or download the file on the right of this page. You can also contact the Rangers to see what support the Parks and Countryside Service can offer you.
