We have worked closely with the Leeds Independent Disability Council to help make sure that the Leeds Arena design is accessible and takes into account the views of disabled citizens. As a consequence of this work:
- all spectators will be able to use the same entrance due to a level entrance area (as opposed to stairs leading to an entrance found at many venues).
- a mixture of elevators and lifts are include to assist access
- Leeds Arena will be the first arena in the country to have a Changing Places toilet facility.
- there will be flexibility for up to 110 wheelchair accessible spaces at events. These will be distributed across various locations within the arena seating area.
- there will be disabled car parking on the arena site - the only car parking available on the arena site.
- a taxi rank is situated close to the entrance of the arena.
- the landscape design has been designed to help guide citizens with potential sight barriers.
The Leeds Arena will open in 2013.
The construction of the building is on course to be concluded in Spring 2013 as planned. At this stage, the arena operator SMG will take occupation of the building and undertake fit out of the building for a period of time.
Once fit out is complete, the arena will then open later in 2013 with its first events.
The Leeds Arena will have space for between 3,000-4,000 standing spectators at events. Retractable seats will be removed to create a large standing area that will create a great atmosphere at concerts and other major events.
Yes, there will be a taxi rank and space for coaches to drop visitors off at the Leeds Arena. The taxi pick up will be on the access road on the arena site, whilst coach drop off facilities will be provided on Wade Lane. The locations have been agreed following consultation with local communities, including the Leeds Independent Disability Council and the taxi trade.
SMG-Europe will operate and manage the Leeds Arena and will be responsible for the sale of corporate boxes. SMG will announce further details on these opportunities in the future.
