Leeds Markets are currently looking for market operators to tender for the Wednesday outdoor market at Kirkgate

The current Licence for the weekly Wednesday ‘Bazaar at Leeds market’ held on the Leeds City Council outdoor market will expire this summer.

Therefore Leeds City Council, on behalf of the Markets service, is seeking tenders from private market operators, or individuals, to operate (by way of a Licence) the weekly Wednesday event on a fixed term licence agreement for three years with an option to extend by a further year.

There are 186 fixed stalls available, each stall having its own electricity supply and lighting.

The outdoor market is located in a premium retail position in the City centre, immediately behind the historic Leeds Kirkgate indoor Market, attracting a weekly footfall of up to 200,000 and immediately adjacent the newly opened Victoria Gate shopping centre which includes the largest John Lewis store outside London, directly opposite the site offered.

Our aspiration is to maximise the appeal of the Kirkgate Market site, indoor and outdoor, to existing and potential new customers. To achieve this, we are keen to ensure that the successful market will appeal to a broad customer base ranging from the John Lewis/Victoria Gate shopper to students and those seeking a unique bargain not found on the High Street.

The type of events that will be considered will have a Unique Selling Point (USP) and could include specialist markets, flea markets, vintage, antique and collector’s markets, produce, crafts, ethnic markets for example. We are not seeking to replicate the General or Second-hand markets that already form part of our offer on the outdoor market site on other days of the week.

This service will be commissioned through a tendering process and further information can be found by visiting www.yortender.co.uk and searching for the scheme: DN239272– Licensed Market Operator for Leeds Outdoor market.

Tenders must be submitted no later than noon on Wednesday 5th April electronically via the website using the Council’s electronic tendering system.
