complete beginner to seasoned seamstresses

the owners of BM fabrics at their stall

Kirkgate Market's B&M Fabrics gave us an insight into market life and how they keep Leeds sewing bees busy..."Hi! We are Susan and Michael of B&M Fabrics, a family run business of 45 years. We supply only the best fabrics to the shoppers of Leeds Market and make it our mission to bring you the latest designs and up-to-date trends. We take pride in everything we do, from our ever-growing pure cotton collection, to our dress fabrics, upholstery and foam cutting service.

We love coming to work everyday as there are never two days alike.  One day is spent chatting with customers, who have come to add to their quilting stash or are making their first crafty item whereas the next day, we're estimating how much fabric it would take to make a dress that people have seen on The Great British Sewing Bee. As well as encouraging the students of Leeds to save themselves some money by  not buying but making their fancy dress costumes.

Every day is as diverse as our customers and we can't get enough of it! Our ethos is that everybody can sew and we try our hardest to encourage everyone who visits us, from complete beginners to seasoned seamstresses. We are always delighted to help in any way possible.

The Market is still very much the hub of Leeds in our opinion and the wide variety of goods and services is astounding, fabric being just one of them. Coming to visit the market allows you to avoid shopping around as there is something for everyone and all at unbeatable prices! We can happily say we are the best market in Britain with the beautiful architecture and the unique array of stalls catering for people of all ages genders and cultural backgrounds. Visiting Leeds market is an unmissable opportunity and once you discover what we have to offer you won't be able to get enough!

Our customers mean a lot to us as we are not a goal driven business.  Keeping our reputation for high quality fabrics and customer service in perfect condition is our drive. We love what we do and wouldn't want to do anything else!"

Thank you Susan and Michael for inspiring lots of Leeds people to keep on sewing!
