Skate Information

First Time Skater?
There's no need to worry if you have never skated before as our friendly team of Ice Marshals will be more than happy to give you tips and advice on how to stay on your feet.

Just relax and don't be afraid to use the side of the rink for balance. Slightly bend your knees, keeping your legs slightly apart and learn forward, then push off with one foot and glide with the other...

Ice skating tuition by qualified coaches is also available to pre-book (click here for details).

Ice Rules / Safety
Our experienced Ice Marshals are on hand to promote a safe and enjoyable experience at all times. Please note however, Ice skating can be a HAZARDOUS activity so please be aware that any on-ice activity is entirely at your own risk*.

All skaters should make themselves aware of the Ice Rules before going on the ice and follow the instructions and guidance of the Ice Marshals at all times. Remember to be aware of, respectful and courteous to other skaters at all times!

* The rink suppliers, management company and/or Leeds City Council will not accept any claims for any injuries obtained whilst on the ice.

What to wear?
Warm layered clothing and a waterproof jacket are advised. Gloves and thick socks are highly recommended, particularly for beginners.

Don't worry if you have forgotten anything! You can purchase a range of hats, gloves and socks in the rink pavilion - just ask at the skate reception.

Nursery Rink
The popular nursery rink provides a safe haven for young children (aged between 2 and 8 years). Penguin skate aids provide budding skaters with a chance to find their feet before tackling the main rink!

Children
Parents must judge whether their children can skate safely. All children 12 yrs and under must be accompanied rink-side by a parent or guardian. All children 7 years and under must be accompanied on the ice and at all times by a parent or guardian.

Disabled Visitors
Public skating sessions are accessible for all persons although disabled users are encouraged to attend the quieter public sessions (starting at 12pm and 4pm on weekdays and at 10am on the weekend) where Ice Marshals can devote more time to offer assistance.

A dedicated weekly mid-morning session is also available for wheelchair users. For further details please contact Voluntary Action Leeds on 0113 297 7942. For any wheelchair user wishing to attend any of the public skating sessions, an advanced booking service is also available through the City Centre Box Office.

Skates
Skate rental is included in the admission price and sizes range from child size 8 to adult size 15. There are also a small number of children's 'bob skates' for our youngest of visitors.

If you have your own pair, you'll receive a £1.00 discount on regular admission prices and we will store your shoes for free.

Lockers
Secure lockers are available within the skate pavilion for all bags, excess clothing and personal belongings at an additional charge of £1.50.

Skaters are reminded that bags, mobile phones, cameras or personal music players are not permitted on the ice at any time.

Helmets
Safety helmets are available at £1.50 per session and are recommended for use for all children 12 yrs and under at parents'/ guardians' discretion.

Photography
A memento of your skate can be bought from the professional photographer at the rink during public sessions (except weekdays before 4pm).

Personal photographs/film* which may identify individuals may only be taken for use by family & friends (please refer to Rules of the Rink).

* Please note any persons wishing to photograph/film for professional purposes or uses other than those stated above, will require prior written consent by Leeds City Council.

Rink Maintenance
To ensure the ice is kept in pristine condition, resurfacing is usually required between skating sessions. This process normally takes about 15 minutes although please bear with us during busy periods.

Weather
The rink is open daily subject to weather conditions. In the event of any adverse weather, please check with skate reception (0113 395 0891) before you travel and/or listen out for updates on 96.3 Radio Aire.

Skate Café
Head to our heated rink-side café area inside the skate pavilion to refuel, thaw out, or simply just watch the action. Enjoy a warming cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and choose from a great selection of hot and cold snacks.
