Skate Info

Weather The rink is open daily subject to extreme weather conditions. For opening updates call 0113 395 0891 before travelling or listen to Capital Radio

Children
Parents must judge whether their children can skate safely. All children aged 8–12 yrs must be accompanied at the rink by a parent or guardian aged 18 yrs or over. All children aged 2-7 yrs must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 18 yrs or over, on the ice and at all times, therefore skating/ ticket purchase is necessary for this adult.

Nursery Rink
The nursery rink with its popular ‘penguin skate aids’, provides a safe haven for young children aged 2–8 yrs to find their feet (accompanied by a parent/guardian).

Skate Wear
Skate rental is FREE and sizes range from a child’s 8 to an adult’s 15, with double-bladed ‘bob skates’ for our youngest visitors. If you have your own pair of skates we’ll store your shoes for free. Safety helmets are available to hire (£1 per session payable at the rink), and are recommended for use for all children aged 12 yrs or under. Lockers are also available for hire (£2 large/ £1 small, per session, payable at the rink). Skaters are reminded that bags, mobile phones, cameras or personal music players are not permitted on the ice. Socks, hats and gloves can be purchased at the rink, but remember to wrap up warm with layered clothing and waterproofs in wet weather.

First Time Skating
There's no need to worry if you have never skated before as our friendly team of Ice Marshals will be more than happy to give you tips and advice on how to stay on your feet. Just relax, slightly bend your knees, learn forward then push off with one foot and glide with the other...

A four week Skate UK tuition programme is also available (click here for details) although places are strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

Ice Rules / Safety
Our experienced Ice Marshals are on hand to promote a safe and enjoyable experience at all times. Please note however, Ice skating can be a hazardous activity so please be aware that any on-ice activity is entirely at your own risk.

All skaters must therefore make themselves aware of the Ice Rules before going on the ice, and follow the instructions and guidance of the Ice Marshals at all times. Remember to be aware of, respectful and courteous to other skaters at all times!

Photography
Please respect peoples privacy and note that photographs/film in which individuals may be identified, must only be taken of friends or family for your/their personal use. Please note any persons wishing to photograph / film for professional purposes or uses other than those stated above, will require prior written consent by Leeds City Council. For further information please email events@leeds.gov.uk

A memento of your skate can also be purchased from the professional photographer at the rink during public sessions (excluding weekdays before 4pm).

Refreshments
Skaters can refuel at the Dolomites Café quick stop refreshment counter inside the skate pavilion. Enjoy a warming cup of tea, coffee or real Italian hot chocolate, and choose from a selection of tasty hot and cold food.
