Description :
A mixed broadleaved and conifer woodland that was planted during the 1990s
on a site previously used as grazing pasture. Tree species include
spruce,
alder,
oak,
ash and
willow with the
understorey comprising of
gorse and
guelder rose.
The site contains an upland pond (a favourite with frogs during the breeding
season) with extensive rush margins and nearby hedgerows and fields. This
habitat is frequented by a number of water fowl, including geese, ducks
and herons.
The adjoining fields provide excellent nesting areas for lapwings and
curlews, which provide one of the few areas suitable as habitat in
the locality.
Access and facilities :
A
Leeds Country Way bridlepath runs between the two fenced areas
of the plantation.
