Description :
This is a group of five woodlands which run through Cookridge and Horsforth, providing a network of greenspaces
in the urban environment with multiple points of public access.
Spring Wood has
public rights
of way pedestrian access, which runs alongside its border from Silk Mill Way
and Iveson Drive. The wood is predominantly
oak and
beech with a
birch and
holly
understorey
Daffy Wood comprises predominantly of an oak and beech
canopy with some birch and
holly understorey.
There is a public rights of way through the wood and pedestrian access is from Silk Mill Way and from Silk
Mill Approach off Silk Mill Way.
Iveson Woods contains what are believed to be either prehistoric or Romano-British hut circles of national
importance and are protected as
Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
These were probably the dwelling places of prehistoric farmers and generally date from the Bronze Age
(c. 2000-700 BC). The tree cover is mainly oak,
scots pine,
larch and birch with a birch and
oak understorey.
Backhouse Wood is similar to Ireland Wood with its tree cover, having predominantly oak canopies with oak,
birch and holly as understorey species.
