Description :
The trees and woodlands of Oulton Park, currently fall into four categories :
- Mature woodlands – composed of the remnant broadleaved plantings of the early
19th century (attributed to the great Humphrey Repton) and the early 20th century,
together with associated natural regeneration, plus later plantings dating from the
1960s and 1970s
- Established plantations planted in the mid 1980s
- Establishing plantations planted in 1991
- Parkland trees and individual feature trees – planting dates vary from the
early 19th century to present day
This Leeds City Council owned site is managed as a high profile golf course,
hosting tournaments of regional importance. Other informal recreational
activities such as walking and bird watching are also extremely popular,
making good use of the park's recently opened 2½ mile perimeter footpath
and many woodland paths. The park has a series of ponds, providing valuable
habitats for wildlife (designated a
