Description :
Mount Pleasant copse comprises four small areas of woodland surrounding a
car park and area of mown grass promoted as a picnic site - containing
benches, seats and litter bins.
Tree species are predominantly
aspen
which are approximately 20 years old. Other species include
hawthorn,
blackthorn,
oak,
rowan and
willow.
The undergrowth is mostly coarse grasses, stinging nettles and brambles.
The stands received their first thinning in 1997.
This is a small but important woodland, providing a prominent landscape
feature due to its position on the hill top overlooking Garforth,
Swillington and Kippax.
Part of the Forest of Leeds
Bat Box Monitoring Project.
